Definitions

BH-TEDS records one primary activity that describes how each individual spends their day. Priority is given to reporting participation in competitive integrated employment.

If the individual is not working and their employment status is reported as “not in the competitive integrated labor force,” then a primary alternative activity is reported. If the individual is involved in more than one activity, a paid activity is reported over unpaid activities. If the person is involved in more than one unpaid activity, then the activity where the person spends the most time is reported.

Employment Status

  • Full-time competitive, integrated employment:

    The individual works 35 hours or more per week, with or without supports, in a typical workplace setting where the majority of persons employed are not persons with disabilities. They earn wages consistent with those paid workers without disabilities in the community performing the same or similar work. The individual earns at least minimum wage. May include self-employment.

  • Part-time competitive, integrated employment

    The individual works less than 35 hours per week, with or without supports, in a typical workplace setting where the majority of persons employed are not persons with disabilities. They earn wages consistent with those paid workers without disabilities in the community performing the same or similar work. The individual earns at least minimum wage. May include self-employment.

  • Unemployed

    The individual has looked for work during the past 30 days or is on a layoff from a job

  • N/A-individual is under 16 years of age

     

Not in competitive integrated employment

  • Homemaker
  • Student
  • Retired
  • Current disability symptoms prevents individual from working.

    The individual’s current disability symptoms prevent him/her from competitively or non-competitively working or seeking work

  • Receiving services from institutional facility

    The individual receives services from an institutional facility such as a hospital, jail, prison, or long-term residential care.

  • Discouraged Worker
  • Unpaid volunteering and community service
  • Micro-enterprise/Self-employment earning less than minimum wage

    The person works in a micro-Enterprise or self-employment and earns less than minimum wage. This includes self-employment in a primarily non- integrated Setting

  • In enclaves/mobile crews/agency-owned transitional employment

    The individual participates in an enclave, mobile crew, or agency-funded transitional employment

  • Participates in facility-based activity program.

    The individual participates in a facility-based activity program where an array of specialty supports and services are provided to assist an individual in achieving her/his non-work-related goals

  • Participates in a community-based activity program

    The individual participates in a community-based activity program that takes place in an integrated setting and includes engagement with members of the general community. This is reported when the majority of the persons participating do not have disabilities.

  • Participates in sheltered workshop

     

Work or activity hours

dentifies the number of hours in the past two (2) weeks that the individual performed work or activities specific to the Employment Status or that was reported.

Hours are reported for the following activities: Full-time competitive, integrated employment; part-time competitive, integrated employment; Unemployed but looking for competitive, integrated employment (the number of hours the individual spent looking for work); Student (the number of hours the individual spent in class and doing homework; Participates in sheltered workshop; Unpaid volunteering, community service, etc.; Micro-enterprise/Self-employment earning less than minimum wage; In enclave/mobile crews/transitional employment; Participates in sheltered employment; Participates in facility-based activity program; Participates in fully-integrated community activities.

Earnings per hour

Identifies how much the individual earned per hour during the past two(2) weeks for the number of hours the individual performed work or activities tasks specific to the reported Employment Status.

Earnings per hour are reported for the following activities, although some assume that there is no income: Full-time competitive, integrated employment; Part-time competitive, integrated employment; Self-employment primarily in an integrated setting earning at least minimum wage; Unemployed but looking for competitive, integrated employment ($00.00 is expected); student ($00.00 is expected); unpaid volunteering or community service ($00.00 is expected); Micro-enterprise/Self-employment earning less than minimum wage/Self-employment primarily in a non-integrated setting; enclave/transitional employment; sheltered non- competitive employment; facility-based (disability specific) activities; Community-based activities in a fully integrated setting.
